The University of Birmingham has a diverse range of groups and associations for members of staff.
Trade unions are able to give advice and information to their members about their rights in employment-related situations.

BURMA is an association for all retired members of university staff. Apart from a break through the summer, BURMA meet once a month for lunch in Staff House followed by a talk given by an invited speaker. There is a membership subscription of £2.50 per annum.

There are a number of staff diversity groups operating at the University. These are staff-led initiatives, but have the common objective of acting as forums for staff to raise issues to the University's attention and input into how such issues are addressed.

BUBUG was formed by a group for cyclists who work with the University. The group works with like-minded bicycle users from the City Council and other groups to improve cycle facilities.

Mermaids is the University staff cricket team. We play 20-over cricket games against various clubs from around the Birmingham area.

The Staff Golf Club is over 100 years old and runs outings through the year, including matches against staff from other universities, the City Council and our own students, as well as knock-out tournaments through the summer. The club caters for all golfing abilities.
